Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and analysis

At Caelum Technologies we use a variety of tools, techniques and sophisticated software to create current condition geographical maps and 3-dimensional models of project specific areas or objects. Dependant on the area of interest and the task at hand we use a combination of the following:

  • Geographic Information Systems (GIS) solutions and analysis - a system designed to capture, store, manipulate, analyse, manage, and present all types of spatial or geographical data.

  • Photogrammetry - the science of making measurements from photographs, especially for recovering the exact positions of surface points.

  • 2-dimensional modelling and 3-dimensional scenario modelling - from large scale maps to small objects such as road construction quarries, factory buildings, land fractures etc.

Geog Mapping

Farm Management / precision agriculture

Monitoring from the sky, capturing highly accurate images at a fraction of the cost of conventional methods and at a far greater resolution than satellite imagery provides. The precision agriculture movement uses technology to monitor fields, increasing yields and saving money.

  • Land and farm planning - precision agriculture

    • Boosting yields, cutting costs, and driving your business forward.

    • The production of Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) maps - Nitrogen level monitoring. These maps show the health and the problems of the crop typically 2 weeks before it is visible to the naked eye. Farmers therefore can make proactive decisions where typically they have to wait for some type of element to show (yellowing of leaves, pest outbreak etc.) then they have to react to them. What NDVI maps allow is for identification of areas before this becomes a problem and hence saving time, money and generating greater yields.

  • Remote Census - computer based image processing and objects identification. The software is used for large quantity counting applications including; species, livestock, game, animal colonies, bird nesting and many more and all at a fraction of the cost of traditional methods.

  • Precision Agriculture - Advanced census systems and infrared camera imagery captures and counts diseased stock.

  • Forest management - invasive identification, current condition mapping, fire management, the production of Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) maps - Nitrogen level monitoring. These maps show the health and the problems areas naked eye. Foresters therefore can make proactive decisions where typically they have to wait for some type of element to show (yellowing of leaves, pest outbreak etc.) then they have to react to them. NDVI maps allow is for identification of areas before this becomes a problem and hence saving time, money and generating greater yields.

  • Game farm management

    • Anti-poaching and surveillance units and training - fully autonomous UAV systems setup to specific farm requirements and task specific.

    • Stock counting - service provided to count stock through normalised and heat sensing systems.

Engineering, Architecture & Industrial

A bird's eye view over areas of interest is not only a great way to view the site or project but it make it possible to spot issues which were not visible from the ground. Through photogrammetry and heat sensing equipment is possible to inspect, spot, plot and map out problematic areas before they become a further costly issue. We use a combination of state of the art equipment to create project specific inspection and survey techniques which may or may not be visible to the naked eye.

  • Industrial inspection

    • Heat sensing power line inspection

    • Roof and building inspection

    • Pipe line inspection

    • Rail road inspection

  • Land and building modelling - area and volume calculation. Photogrammetric calculations to keep an up to date record of progress and developments.

    • 3-dimensional land and building modelling with animated flyby video outputs.

    • Calculation of area and volume with Digital Elevation Model (DEM) outputs and contouring.

  • Mining and construction

    • We provide various services for the mining and construction industries.

  • Manned and unmanned site inspections

    • There is no site to small or too large for an aerial inspection. Whether it be drones, helicopters or fixed wing planes; we can find a solution that best suits your needs.

Industry

Environmental Management

  • Water body surveying and sampling - Unmanned water management sampling systems. Extraction of water from rivers or dams for temperature, toxic substances, ph, dissolved oxygen, turbidity, bacteria, and biological analysis.

  • Forest management - landscape analysis, growth development through multispectral analysis of photosynthesis, fire management, strategic planning and mapping.

  • Remote census - computer based image processing and object identification. The software is used for large quantity counting applications including; species, game, animal colonies, bird nesting and many more and all at a fraction of the cost of traditional methods.

  • Monitoring of invasive species - easily identification of invasive biological species through aerial systems and mapping.

  • Vegetation mapping - using the tools, techniques and sophisticated software which Caelum Technologies apply, it is possible to create current condition geographical maps and 3-dimensional models of vegetation and surroundings.
